Yesterday was the release of the newest character in Street Fighter V, Menat the fortune teller, and she didn’t disappoint. Here are some things that make her the most talked about character putting Ed and Abigail to shame.
The Crystal Ball
Her crystal ball helps her with reach as she has powerful low attacks and anti-air crush counters. The ball’s ability to rest until summoned back to her helps create a setup for combos or grabs. Just when you think the ball was powerful enough, activated in EX mode, multiple orbs surround her and can be used in combos that can easily take away half of the opponents life bar.
Her connection to Rose
In her story mode, she constantly refers to her master to figure out what is the power she’s sensing in her crystal ball. In one cut scene, even though she doesn’t address her by name, an outline of Rose from Street Fighter IV appears above her. It’s the best of both worlds as we have a new character but we are still connected to the last title of the series. I don’t know about you, but I freaked out a little.
Her Costumes Are To Die For, Then Resurrect Ourselves
All characters come with three costumes; Their main attire, the story costume, and the battle costume. Her battle costume, however, was the talk of the internet with her Egyptian-like mummy attire making her a bit more revealing. In case you wanted a bit more sexy from the character, fans of the game were not only fascinated with a particular move of hers as you can see at the end of this tweet.
With so much potential for this newbie, it is still too soon for players to take the training wheels off of her and make her a main. I saw this first hand playing online.
First Time Fighting Her Online
It’s one thing to fight as the character, but to fight against her is another story. I’ve fought high ranked players who decided to use her online. The only issue is that she is too new to just put into battle. Unlike Abigail where you can get away with basic moves, Menat has a series of combos that are yet to be tested. needless to say, it was the easiest ranked match I’ve had in a week.
It’s only been a day since her release and I expect that we won’t see crazy gameplay from her for a couple of weeks. She was released along with battle costumes for Bison, Guile, Ibuki, and Karin. You can buy Menat for $5.99 or $100,000 in fight money.
